Estimote Stickers – the internet of things is near

Estimote Stickers are tiny wireless sensors that you can attach to anything you want. They were created by the Polish company Estimote, which already won recognition last year for its Estimote Beacons. Now releases its new product and encourages people to buy and create useful applications.
The problem with the Internet of Things is that when we want our devices to be “smart” we have to replace the hardware or buy additional components. Usually these are special dedicated sensors, developed by several different companies. And so we need a separate piece of equipment to track cycling, a separate one for the refrigerator, kettle, garage door and so on and so forth. Unfortunately, all of these are also very expensive, and we probably have to spend more than a few minutes configuring and customizing the mechanisms we purchase.

About a year ago, Estimote, a company founded by Łukasz Kostka of the AGH University of Science and Technology and Jakub Krzych, a graduate of the Jagiellonian University, launched devices called Estimote Beacons. These devices are small sensors that send out radio signals. A nearby phone can pick them up, identify them and display various information in the appropriate application. For example, a museum can inform passersby about the most interesting exhibitions in this way. This works with Bluetooth 4 technology.0 Smart (known as BLE or Bluetooth Low Energy).

The new technology won the award for best hardware start-up at the TechCrunch Disrupt conference and was widely covered on foreign portals. As reported on the company’s blog, some 25,000 developers are already building apps using Estimote Beacons.
