An iPhone app that detects… skin cancer!
Smartphone features are multiplying at an alarming rate, and I think we are getting closer and closer to the point when the smartphone will “wash, clean and cook” for us. And even more, it can replace the doctor for us! Indeed, the first mobile application that detects cancer has been created, and in addition, it does it quite accurately.
Medical diagnosis in a smartphone
Researchers at the University of Houston have created an iPhone app that can detect melanoma, a skin cancer, even better than a dermatologist can. The application is called DermoScan and, based on a photo of the birthmarks on our body, can initially diagnose them. The first tests showed that DermoScan detected skin cancer with approx.
85% efficiency, which matches (and even surpasses) medical diagnoses.
